"Sound healing" refers to the therapeutic use of sound (such as music, chimes, chanting, voice) to promote healing. Sound has been used for thousands of years in multiple cultures to help people release stress and relax. This 75-minute IN PERSON therapeutic yoga and sound healing workshop begins with a gentle hatha yoga practice appropriate for all levels and ability, meditation, and breathwork. At the end of the movement practice participants are invited to lay down on the floor with eyes closed, and listen to the sound of Tibetan singing bowls. The workshops will be facilitated by Geeti Shirazi Mahajan, LCSW-S (she/her), one of the counselors at the Employee Assistance Program. Geeti is also certified as a Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT). The workshops will be held IN PERSON in the Rowling Hall Special Events Room (RRH 5.210) on Wednesday, April 2nd from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. Please sign up through UT Learn.

In a weight-focused world, people with larger bodies often experience negative attitudes and behaviors from other people. These messages result in people with larger bodies internalizing the negative treatment and approaching their bodies as an enemy. In this group, participants will unpack and examine the messages that they carry about their bodies. Members can receive support from others who understand their experiences, and they can gain new perspectives and tools for living in a larger body in a weight-focused world. This virtual group will meet Wednesdays from 11 am-12 pm from 4/2/25-5/7/25. The group facilitator is Jamie Justus LCSW-S, and a pre-group interview is required to join the group. Please email eap@austin.utexas.edu to schedule your pre-group interview at least a week prior to 4/2/25.
