The University of Texas at Austin community is reeling from the news of the murder of Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson earlier this week. She was a highly respected colleague, an admired professor, a dear friend and a beloved pediatrician to many of us and our families.
The shock and anguish are palpable as we grapple with this awful tragedy—all that is known and the many unknown details. In this place of pain, the Employee Assistance Program clinicians are available to be present with and to listen to any faculty or staff wanting support.
We offer the following handouts as resources:
- Coping with Grief from the Employee Assistance Program at UT Austin
- Supporting Others Who are Grieving from the Employee Assistance Program at UT Austin
- Your Grief is Your Own by Candyce Ossefort-Russell, LPC-S (Need to provide an email to download)
- Talking to Children About the Shooting from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network
- After a Crisis: How Young Children Heal from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network
- Helping Teens with Traumatic Grief from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network
Two additional local Austin agencies that are available for support are The Austin Center for Grief and Loss and The Christi Center
